The Library purchases titles and delivers titles to customers using the technology that is available. While you may still be able to get OverDrive titles to play on your MP3 player, creators of the MP3 technology have declared the technology dead (link to information from Fraunhofer Institute; link to article from NPR) and publishers actively seek not to have their titles playable on MP3 players. Sonoma County Library will not be investing in MP3 technologies or titles going forward. Even if we wanted to, MP3 players will not be supported and titles will not be available.
We know this is probably not the answer many are hoping for. We understand the frustration that a technology you use for audiobooks (MP3) is going away. Please let us know if we can help with the transition to Axis 360, Hoopla and our other online resources.
