Pausing a hold will maintain your place in the hold queue until the chosen date, or you resume the hold. You can pause a request anytime before the item is in transit to the hold shelf or is on the hold shelf. To pause a request, from the Library Catalog, click on My Account. Under the "On Hold" tab, click the check box next to any of the requested titles, and then click the "Pause Hold" button, and enter the date after which you want to receive your hold.

Extending a hold delays the time the item remains on the hold shelf. Unfortunately, if your request is in transit or is already on the hold shelf, it is not possible to extend a hold yourself. The library system allows patrons a period of 7 calendar days to pick up a hold. Often there are others waiting for a title, and extending the hold would unfairly lengthen the wait for those other patrons.
